Into March

Image
More gales in March have resulted in a probable delay to completion of the building work.  We are now looking at the end of May rather than late April/early May before we can start final decoration. Despite the bad weather, progress has been made.    The stonework on the 2-storey extension is now complete - and looks very good. The stonework on the kitchen extension is half done and tiling has started on the rear parts of the roof.   In addition the windows are currently being made in Alfreton.

Work continues in the face of Storm Dennis!

Storm Dennis brought wet and windy weather in February although the team valiantly kept the project progressing. As at 24 February, the blockwork has been finished with most of the exterior limestone work having been done on the rear two-storey extension.   The steels are now in place and the rafters for the rear roof areas fitted.  We also had the outside timbers sandblasted and all the new windows were ordered. Taking shape The steels to carry the bridge across the dining room What will be the dining room Zara checks out the first rows of limestone and the sandstone coins  c More nice stonework The new bedroom Looking from what will be the landing, across the bridge to the rear bedroom Sandblasting!   Looking into the new bedroom

A good start to the New Year

The good progress continued in January.   As at 21 January: The rear initial terrace work was completed so that some of the rubble could be held in the retaining walls.   Where did the lawn go? The limestone facing was delivered from the quarry: The team had a big job getting them all dressed - it sounded (and looked) like a Victorian penal colony! Some serious demolition was done above the old dining room - the roof was completely removed and the doorway to the planned mezzanine knocked through:   The steel joists were also delivered and the first fitted above the dining room to take the mezzanine bridge:

And so onwards into 2020!

Form mid-December through to the New Year there was very good progress due ti a combination of  continuing hard work by Dan and the team and good weather - note there is actually some blue sku in the following photos! The roof on the North side of the roof was completed: The blockwork on the kitchen really took shape right up to having the roof joists in place:   NB Blue sky!     The rear extension blocks were also completed up to the point of the future bedroom floorboarding in place:         During this period we also had the internal sand blasting done so that the plaster would fix well to the inside walls.  This created an awfully lot of ...

.. and on go the roof tiles

7th December and the roof tiles go on - and rather windy up there!
